Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp

Apple crisp is one of those foods that signals summer is gone and fall is here. As much as I love summer and hate to see it leave for another year, I get excited when it is apple season. There are so many delicious things that you can make with apples.  Plus, apples and cinnamon are one of my favorite flavor combinations. They smell amazing when they are baking too.

Apple Crisp

This is a great recipe to bake on a chilly day. The oven warms up the kitchen a bit and the house smells so welcoming and homey. This recipe is fantastic when it is freshly made but it warms up beautifully too. There is some sweetness in the crisp topping but just enough to complement and not overpower the tartness of the apples.

Instructions:

  • 9 cups peeled and sliced apples
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • ¾ butter, softened

Spread apples evenly in a greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Mix remaining ingredients and sprinkle over the apples. Bake at 375 degrees about 45 minutes or until apples are tender and the topping is nicely brown.
