Nutella Energy Balls

Nutella Energy Balls

Nutella has that perfect flavor combination of chocolate and hazelnuts. However, as much as I would like to be able to think of it as healthy, there is quite a bit of sugar and oil listed on its ingredient list. I was thinking though that it would be the best of both worlds if I could get that delicious flavor and make it healthier…

Nutella Energy Balls

These are the best of both worlds! They contain that irresistibly delicious Nutella but are packed full of healthy ingredients too. The Nutella is mixed with almond butter in a one to one ratio that blends together wonderfully. The chocolate and hazelnut flavor still shines through in these and you can rest assured that you are consuming lots of nutrients along with it.

Nutella Energy Balls

These are so easy to make. They only require five ingredients! Oats, protein powder, almond butter, Nutella and water. Since the Nutella is already sweetened no additional sweetener like honey is needed. This makes the process of making them even simpler.

Nutella Energy Balls

As much as I love Nutella it had been gathering dust in my pantry because I’ve been trying to eat more healthy, whole foods. However, this recipe is finally allowing me to savor the deliciousness of Nutella as an energizing and wholesome snack. I’m quickly using up my old, dusty jar and have put another one on my grocery list!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups rolled oats
  • ¾ cup chocolate protein powder (I used chocolate whey protein powder)
  • ¼ cup Nutella
  • ¼ cup creamy almond butter
  • 4-5 tablespoons water

Instructions

Mix together the oats and protein powder. Add the Nutella and almond butter, alternately mixing and cutting the nut butters into small chunks with the spoon as you stir. When the Nutella and almond butter are fairly evenly distributed throughout the dry mixture, add 4 tablespoons of water. Mix well and look at the texture; it should be just sticky and wet enough to roll into balls so add a little more water if it is too dry. Scoop the batter out with a spoon and shape it. Feel free to make the energy balls any size that you like. I usually make mine into 12 balls that are about 1” in diameter. You can put them in the fridge to firm up a bit or eat as is.
